Double is a collection of porcelain tableware designed by TAF in collaboration with producer Tokunaga in Arita, Japan, one of the world's foremost regions for porcelain production. The collection was developed around a single guiding concept: to treat children seriously by designing tableware that grows with its user rather than being outgrown.

The name refers to the collection's core logic. Each piece functions on multiple levels simultaneously. A child's plate becomes an adult's saucer. A small Asian tea cup doubles as a European coffee cup. Objects are designed to last a lifetime and be passed down to the next generation, building sustainability into the concept from the outset.

The forms draw reference from the pragmatic objects of the porcelain industry itself, among them the metal pitcher used to pour liquid clay into casting molds, here translated into a porcelain vessel that refers back to its own making. Colours and patterns take their cues from everyday accidents and pleasures, melting ice cream, spilled milk, the mark of a ballpoint pen, rendered in soft glazes of apricot, vanilla and pale green. Geometric stamps can be combined to form faces, flowers and houses, patterns that speak to both children and adults without resorting to gender clichés or childish imagery.

The collection is produced using Arita's characteristic thin and exceptionally strong porcelain, made for everyday use, dishwasher and microwave safe, and distributed through design and interior stores.

2016/ is a porcelain brand established to mark 400 years of ceramic production in Arita, Japan. The project brings together sixteen international design teams to reinterpret the traditions and techniques of Arita ware for contemporary everyday use. The collection was led by creative directors Teruhiro Yanagihara and Scholten&Baijings. The initiative aims to renew interest in the region and secure the future of its exceptional craft knowledge.
