[ Fundament is Swedish for; foundation, base, basis, ground, pediment, footing ]

Fundament is an exhibition about pedestals. Rather than serving as neutral supports for other objects, the pedestal is here placed in focus as an object in its own right. The exhibition presents 27 bespoke pedestals developed across three typologies, paired with 27 objects from the auction house Bukowskis and TAF.

Stone. A limestone from Gotland is 3D scanned, remodelled, and cast in solid aluminium. The cast form functions as a structural weight supporting aluminium sheets that compose the base and table top. Produced in an edition of nine by a foundry in Norsborg, Stockholm.

Bleck. Originally designed for an exhibition at the Nordic Museum, Stockholm, the Bleck pedestal is now produced as both a table and pedestal by Gärsnäs. Corner details reference the frame construction visible on the reverse of stretched paintings. Produced in an edition of nine in beech wood with a high-gloss painted finish.

Balk. The form references the column and the I-beam, structural elements that, like the pedestal, perform a supporting and subordinate function. The connection between components is reinforced by an exposed tongue joint. Produced in an edition of nine in Oregon pine by a cabinetmaker in Stockholm.
