Flaggor was a major exhibition at Nordiska Museet running from November 2011 to September 2012, exploring the symbolic value, history and emotional power of flags across cultures and time. From the earliest known depictions dating to 3000 BC, flags have served as markers of power and belonging. The exhibition presented national flags, pennants, club banners and other flag types, examining when, where and how they have been used throughout history.
The exhibition design by TAF is built around specially designed wooden podiums with corner bracket reinforcements. Photographs of the museum's own characteristic vaulted architecture were printed and mounted as freestanding thin wall elements within the exhibition space, with openings cut to echo the original arches. These openings were scaled progressively smaller toward the end of the exhibition, creating a trompe l'oeil effect that amplified the central perspective and gave the space an elongated, almost theatrical depth. Each thematic section of the exhibition was colour coded to provide clear pedagogical orientation throughout.
