Title Studio Trolley
Category Trolley
Client Ishinomaki Laboratory, ishinomaki-lab.org
Material Wood
Year 2024-
The project originated from a mistake. Wood ordered for studio shelving arrived in incorrect dimensions, and rather than returning it, the decision was made to design trolleys from the stock at hand. The constraint of working within fixed, standard plank dimensions became the generative framework for the design.
An additional shelf and a top tray were incorporated to extend the functional range of the trolley. The design was subsequently developed further during a workshop at Ishinomaki, where proportions were refined to align with the workshop's standard dimensions. A lower trolley and a coffee table were developed in parallel during this process.
In keeping with the Ishinomaki philosophy, the pieces are assembled without proprietary fittings, using only standard hardware, maintaining the principle that the construction should be accessible and replicable by almost anyone.
