NK, Stockholm's foremost department store, operated its own furniture workshops from 1904 to 1973, producing pieces in collaboration with leading Swedish architects and designers including Ferdinand Boberg, Carl Bergsten, Gunnar Asplund, Axel Einar Hjorth, Elias Svedberg, and Kerstin Hörlin-Holmquist. The workshops also produced furniture under license from Knoll.

The exhibition design references the quality associated with the NK brand through a cream lacquered surface set in graphic contrast with black. Traditional workshop shelving and storage units are reinterpreted as display elements, with a refined sawhorse positioned beneath each podium. The entire exhibition is conceived for in-house production in the museum's own workshops, using simple materials and construction techniques throughout.
