Overlap is a table and bench designed by TAF. The name refers directly to the structure of the legs, crafted in powder coated and galvanised steel. Drawing an implicit reference to the mechanics of a pair of scissors, two folded steel forms cross and interlock at a central point, held in tension by their overlap, leaving the structure open with curved edges. The contrast between the geometric steel base and the rustic timber surface is central to the design expression.
The tabletop and bench planks are made from Western Red Cedar, a lightweight wood known for its natural resistance to decay, mould and insects, making the furniture well suited for both indoor and outdoor use. Over time the planks develop a silver grey patina that further emphasises the material contrast between wood and steel.
